I think I may have been doing it wrong with the Bluebird because I was always trying to make sure the peaks were at 0 db.

I believe I'm getting a decent sound and I'm trying to make sure the peak moments are at around -12dB. I just messed around the Bock and I have the mic level on the profire 2626 set at about 75%. Recording levels should be set by monitoring the channel level meters only. It can make the waveform appear to be higher or lower without any change in the real level. The displayed track "height" in Logic depends on the waveform zoom slider setting (Lower right in the arrange window) and should not be used as a measure of having the correct recording levels. The other obvious issue in your post is using the appearance of the track "height" in Logic to judge recording level. It's only at very low sensitivities that preamp noise can become an issue.Īsking why the two mics are not the same is like asking why two completely different autos don't give exactly the same fuel mileage. Many very high quality mics have relatively low output levels. Mic output level (sensitivity) has nothing to do with mic accuracy or distortion. A modern LDC might have an output of -30 db (like your Bluebird) so only needs a maximum gain of 25 to 35 dB, or -42 dB like the 195 and need 37 to 48 dB of preamp gain.Ĭontemporary mic pre amplifiers typically have a gain range that's can be adjusted over 40 to as much as 80 dB (for a very high gain ribbon pre) to accommodate different mic sensitivities and being operated under different conditions. Output levels from a older ribbon mic may be at -60 dB and may require 70 or 75 dB gain from a preamp. If the difference you're seeing is more than 11 dB, then you may have other issues.Īny ideas on what the issue might be and why the levels aren't the same?Mic sensitivities vary because of the type of transducer, the size of the transducer, the transducer bias voltage, the electronics design and a large number of other factors. That means that for you to have the same level in your DAW, you will need 10.7 dB more gain when using the Boch 195.Ī sensitivity difference of 11 dB is not at all unusual for modern mics, and the Boch 195 output should easily work with any mic preamp. By then, then sound was all distorted and it was clearly way too loud.At the standard reference sound pressure level used to specify microphone sensitivity (94 dB SPL or 1Pa pressure) the BLUE Bluebird has a output of 27 mV or -31.3 dBv.Īt the same standard reference sound level the Bock Audio 195 has an output of 8 mV or -42 dBv.

I just got the Bock audio 195 today and anxiously plugged it in and I had to jack the the mic gain level almost to full to get a level that didn't even match the bluebird. It's really clear when it peaks because the image that logic creates for the sound gets as big as the track itself and I know to turn it down a little I've had the bluebird go straight into an M audio profire 2626 with the mic gain level at no more than -20dB and I get a great signal in logic without any effects on. Game 4 takes place in LA on Saturday before the two teams head back to Phoenix.HELP! I just upgraded from a Blue Bluebird mic to a Bock Audio 195 and I am struggling with something. All my energy was directed towards a better game in Game 3."Ĭlippers guard Reggie Jackson also impressed with 23 points and the hosts did a superb job in defence to keep Phoenix's key man quiet.ĭevin Booker registered a first career triple-double in Game 1 but was limited to just 15 points on Thursday, while Chris Paul had 15 points and 12 assists on his return after being ruled out due to the NBA's health and safety protocols. So everything was just put in going into Game 3. I thought we did a great job of moving on." "We were on the plane, we talked about it," said George of his team putting Game 2 behind them, via ESPN. Paul George missed two late free throws in Game 2 but responded in the first game of the series in LA with a game-high 27 points, as well as providing 15 rebounds and eight assists to guide the Clippers to victory. The Clippers had appeared on course to level the series, but Deandre Ayton's last-gasp dunk snatched the win away. The LA outfit fell 2-0 behind in the Western Conference finals series after a heartbreaking 104-103 loss in Phoenix earlier this week. The Clippers are 25/1 to win the NBA Championship outright and Phoenix can be backed at 5/4.
